Why it Matters
Soundtracks often require complex licensing arrangements, so we rarely see them in a business or medical context. That’s about to change. Get ready for a future where communication and learning are as fun as a catchy tune.
Google Cloud and Bayer announced a partnership where Google’s AI will assist radiologists in identifying anomalies.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian announces Bayer deal
Why it Matters
Radiologists are facing a growing labor shortage with more that 1800 unfilled jobs in the USA today. As a result many radiologists are overworked and fighting burnout. AI is a power tool that boost their ability to read more scans, with less effort, and higher quality.
Google Cloud has released a more energy efficient chip that moves a lot of data processing to storage devices.
Why it Matters
Human intelligence is orders of magnitude more energy efficient than current AI. Chip makers and cloud providers are constantly looking to improve energy consumption, enabling AI to continue to grow. Google’s latest advance is a challenge to incumbents like Intel and AMD to produce more computing power with 30% less energy use.
Google Research just dropped a paper describing an “infinite context,” demonstrating AI with a context window of over 1M tokens.
Why it Matters
The “context” of an AI represents short term memory for solving problems, or learning from a few examples. With an infinite context, we can now include entire AI training sets in a single prompt, or massive health records, then ask questions of the AI for a quick response. Specialist AIs will soon be swapped out with a simple context switch, like an iPhone switching from one app to another.
